Chasing an Elusive Nature
WHAT
The first Hong Kong artist in the gallery’s roster, this is Lam’s first solo exhibition since 2013. Spanning an entire gallery floor, the presentation is a mix of site-specific creations and sculptures made of a variety of materials from crate wood to umbrella fabric. Her new works are presented in congruence with some of her older works, displaying her interest in local heritage, history, and explorations into the city’s collective power.
WHY
One of Lam’s primary themes over the past couple of years has been water, and this exhibition is quite interesting for viewers who get to witness how she takes her use of various media to create a work that portrays water. Her works also cover a wide array of emotive juxtapositions such as reality and illusion, loneliness and intimacy, and passiveness and activeness. As she oscillates between the two sides, she invites viewers to take a deeper look at her creative process.
