William Lim: Fish Wishes
WHAT
This is the architect-collector-artist’s 2nd solo exhibition with the gallery. The presentation of colourful paintings pays homage to the rich culture of Hong Kong, where auspicious symbols carry profound meanings, representing comfort and blessings; these are reflected in everything from home decorations to social etiquette, showcasing people’s aspirations for a beautiful life. The artist also debuts his clay sculpture works to showcase a different side of his artistry.
WHY
The exhibition is a documentation of the artist’s personal art journey. His fascination with fish stems from their unique symbolism and vitality. While fish are often depicted as culinary delights in Western art, in Chinese culture they embody a deeper spirituality, symbolising prosperity and hope – blessings that he hopes to share with his audience.
