Chine: A new generation of artists
WHAT
The collective exhibition delves into the rising contemporary Chinese art scene. The 21 artists include Aaajiao, Alice Chen, Chen Fei, Chen Wei, Chu Yun, Cui Jie, Hao Liang, Hu Xiaoyuan, Li Ming, Liu Chuang, Lu Pingyuan, LuYang, Miao Ying, Nabuqi, Qiu Xiaofei, Shen Xin, Xun Sun, Wan Yang, Yao Qingmei, Yu Ji, and Zhang Ding. Their works explore the evolving face of China, from environmental upheavals to the sweeping societal changes brought on by economic expansion. Reflecting the perspectives of a young generation born during China’s economic boom from the late 1970s to the early 1990s, the show is curated around the theme of 目 (mù), meaning ‘eye’. It includes a diverse range of media that offer a first-time glimpse of these visionary works in France.
WHY
Visitors are invited to engage with thought-provoking themes like globalisation, environmental challenges, and the transformation of Chinese urban landscapes. These artists draw from China’s rich cultural heritage while injecting it with a modern twist, creating a fresh dialogue between tradition and contemporary life. This exhibition not only highlights emerging talent but also adds new depth to the Centre Pompidou collection.
