Takis
WHAT
The late Greek artist Panayiotis Vassilakis (born: 1925–2019) known as Takis, was a pioneering figure in kinetic art, known for integrating experimental physics and invisible forces like magnetism into art. His artistic practice spanned over 70 years and incorporated sculptures, paintings, performances, and sound works that explored magnetism, movement, and energy.
WHY
The artist developed self-performing sculptures animated by magnetic forces, challenging the boundaries of traditional art. He aimed to blend art with scientific inquiry, using technology, philosophy, and even Zen Buddhism to explore themes of time, space, and energy.
