Mehdi Ghadyanloo: Monuments of Hope
WHAT
The renowned Iranian artist, painter, and muralist (b.1981) is known for his gigantic trompe-l’oeil-style murals, and has become the most prolific Iranian public artist with over 100 murals across the globe in the USA, the UK, Russia and his native Iran. His 4th exhibition with the gallery, the solo show features his iconic hyperrealist style, focussing on amusement park motifs that audiences are familiar with.
WHY
The artist’s compositions are both ‘Pop’, without relating to any specific form of consumerism, and ‘hyperrealist’, while playing with the norms of perspective or geometric reality. The brilliance and transparency of his hyperrealism is a kind of veil that obscures and blurs the lines: between painting and photography (or the computer image), day and night, memory and erasure, but also the social and inner worlds.
