June 29, 2024 - January 5, 2025
Ieoh Ming Pei

WHAT
The first full-scale retrospective of Ieoh Ming Pei (1917–2019) properly appraises the work of one of the greatest architects of the 20th and 21st centuries. This exhibition features more than 300 objects, exploring Pei’s transcultural vision and the profound impact of his iconic landmarks. It offers a comprehensive examination of Pei’s life and work through 6 themes that define his unique practice throughout his career.

WHY
Pei’s high-profile projects, including the National Gallery of Art East Building in Washington, D.C., the modernisation of the Grand Louvre in Paris, Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong, and the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, solidified his position in architectural history and popular culture. The exhibition presents a rich selection of drawings, sketches, videos, models, and archival documentation, many of which are on view for the first time. With newly commissioned photographs and architectural models, it presents a contemporary lens to appreciate Pei’s enduring legacy.
