Through Boredom Into Fascination
WHAT
The exhibition draws inspiration from American photographer, Diane Arbus, and challenges traditional assumptions about the creation of art. It highlights the artist’s ceramic learning experience, where understanding porcelain as a material can only be achieved through repetitive work that seems boring, calling into question the very nature of art-making and opening up new dimensions of understanding and perception. She engages in a masterful exploration of glazes, forms, and patterns in her ceramic works, deftly manipulating repetition and incorporating exquisite Chinese calligraphy and animal motifs to create pieces that are both visually captivating and conceptually rich.
WHY
The exhibition sparks a confrontation between the long-held belief that art is an intellectual activity, driven by conscious thought and deliberate action, and the contrasting perspective that art blossoms out of monotony, like a meditative practice, where the constant drum of repetition slowly peels back layers of understanding. It offers a unique opportunity to explore the relationship between boredom, fascination, and creativity, and to gain insight into the transformative power of repetition.
