WHAT
Using newspaper ink on erasers as her medium, the artworks of the Hong Kong-based artist’s second solo show with the gallery evolve into markers of time and reminders of the past. She recreates feelings she felt in her adolescence, such as sensations of distress that lead her to seek refuge on a park bench under trees; these same trees are echoed in another work in vivid colours of purple. The artist also utilises white space immensely, as she explores the diversity of tone – a naturally occurring element in newsprint. Finally, the artist presents a poem which depicts the feeling of limbo between leaving and arriving.

The wisdom that comes from looking back on one’s roots is invaluable. What comes after this reflection is a time of joyous celebration. The artist uses this exhibition as her pause for celebration in the middle of her retrospection – that it is possible to reinvent oneself and overcome hard times. The artist’s inner journey shines through her art, as she celebrates this transitional period between past and future.
