Zhang Ding & Teppei Kaneuji: Two Clubs
WHAT
While the Chinese multi-media artist (Zhang) is known for his club-inspired installations and videos, the Japanese artist (Kaneuji) uses his vibrant sculptures and assemblages to comment on mass consumption. Curated by Zhu Sha, this collaborative multi-media exhibition showcases over 100 representative works, including paintings, sculptures, installations, and video works. It highlights the performativity and affinity with pop culture as the club motif takes centre stage.
WHY
The club motif holds great importance for both artists, and the exhibition serves as an alternative space where their artistry intertwines. Zhang Ding’s long-standing interest in clubs is evident in his use of speakers. On the other hand, Kaneuji’s vibrant, candy-coloured sculptures and uncanny monsters reflect his contemplation of entertainment and consumption.
