March 22 - May 16

WHO
Wucius Wong

WHAT
The artist (b.1936) is a celebrated figure in contemporary Chinese ink painting. The exhibition showcases close to 20 paintings, and examines Wong’s four different series of his work from 1985 – 2023. Renowned for his analytical prowess, Wong adeptly transforms serene natural landscapes into striking geometric compositions. Through a series of evocative ink wash paintings the artist invites art enthusiasts to embark on a profound visual journey that explores the interconnectedness between water, mountains, and the human spirit.

WHY
The artist’s unique approach is deeply influenced by his emotive use of dots and lines, a technique that he learnt from his mentor, Lui Shou-Kwan. Enhanced by his early encounters with Western art and his achievements in the design realm, Wong’s profound command of artistic techniques has enabled him to push the boundaries of traditional ink art. This exhibition is particularly significant because it showcases his innovative approach to traditional Chinese ink painting, blending ancient techniques with contemporary themes.
