WHAT
The Israeli-born and New York-based artist’s newest exhibition contains a mix of new and old works inspired by the titular object. His artistic process involves finding objects that associate with the theme of the exhibition and mounting them on wedge-like shelves to spark associations of the object in the viewer’s mind. It inspires the idea of a tin drum in the minds of those witnessing without them even realising and this has been the artist’s pattern since the 1970s.

WHY
While the theme of the exhibition is the ‘tin drum’, a more all-encompassing theme would be ‘associations’. The basis of the artist’s work is to influence associations in people’s minds, but he communicates his ideas across a multitude of levels. For children, the objects and cute toys might be a source of joy while adults might have a better understanding of the historical references, especially to other artistic ideas such as Russian Constructivism. Overall, with the associations the artist sparks, viewers are confronted with the fact that many of their ideas are inherently linked to the common world around them.
