Splendor of the Sun
WHAT
Curated by Zoie Yung, the group exhibition features the new works of 12 different artists, all inspired by manuscripts of early scientific observations. The title comes from the 1582 alchemical text, ‘Splendor Solis’, and epitomises the theme of the exhibition, which was taken from the depiction of alchemical processes in glass flasks within the text. Split into 7 different parts all to represent a part of the flask, the curation is a metaphor that features the main space as the interior of the flask.
WHY
The exhibition features international artists from around the world, from Hong Kong to Singapore to the United States, each with their own unique take on alchemical occurrences. Viewers get to witness the contemporary artistic interpretations with parallels that reference early alchemical history and chemical reactions, providing a scientific perspective to the exhibition.
