Ship of Theseus
WHAT WE KNOW
Multi-disciplinary Singaporean artist, Yen Phang’s 1st solo exhibition draws inspiration from an ancient Greek philosophical thought; ‘Ship of Theseus’ is one of the oldest concepts in Western Philosophy that raises the question of whether an object that has had all components replaced remains fundamentally the same object. This new series of works is a continuation of the artist’s fascination and passion with nature and biology.
WHY WE LOVE IT
The process with which Phang builds up each composition is akin to how a city urban landscape is constantly being manicured and pruned. The layers of paint & vibrant colours question our ever-changing urban landscape, and pay tribute to nature and biology, resulting in refreshing visual expressions that border between the real and the virtual.
