Raoul Dufy: The Melody of Happiness
WHAT
The late French artist (1877-1953) was mostly associated with the Fauvist movement, and the retrospective includes 120 of his works. Presented in a layout that is both chronological and theme-based, the exhibition comprises 12 sections, enabling visitors to become acquainted with an artistic trajectory extending over the whole first half of the 20th century. Featuring paintings, decorative arts, drawing, engraving, and mural decors, the multi-media presentation also highlights Dufy’s active role in the radical renewal of fashion in the 1920s, as well as his innate feeling for decor.
WHY
This exhibition is a rare opportunity to witness the complete retrospective of the French artist’s works. Visitors are able to explore the artist’s different evolving styles, as well as to appreciate his vibrant and decorative flair. Often eclipsed by fellow Fauvist, Henri Matisse, the presentation affords the artist more exposure, recognition, and appreciation to global audiences outside of Europe.
