Opening of the Egg
WHO
Emily Cheng
WHAT
The solo exhibition of the artist’s works is a colourful selection of semi-abstract paintings that take their inspiration from Carl Jung’s ‘Psychology and Alchemy’ (published 1944), where the famous psychiatrist and psychoanalyst expounds upon the relationship between alchemy, Christian dogma, and psychological symbolism. The richness of imagery in the paintings not only visually delights, but is supposed to stir up latent memories.
WHY
The theme of the exhibition hinges on surrealism. Audiences are encouraged to think of the collection of imaginative paintings as a portrait gallery of the soul in its various manifestations. Each painting is a separate incarnation, inheriting a memory cultivated by its own special cross-pollination of cultural traditions.
