WHAT
The exhibition is the first large-scale comprehensive retrospective of the artist’s work – featuring almost 200 of his photographs of historical events, public figures, and the daily lives of different people. The 7 sections are titled ‘Face’, ‘Body Language’, ‘Timing the Moment’, ‘Benchmarks’, ‘Crowds’, ‘Place’, and ‘Archive’. The exhibition also includes a recreation of the artist’s special photo-developing experience, in which there is a vivid restaging of how news images were created, selected, and disseminated during his time.

WHY
The featured artist was the first chief photojournalist for Time magazine and the Associated Press to work in Beijing since 1978. Focusing on the language of photography, the artist’s techniques are extracted from the elements of visual culture, showing the significant role they played. As the museum’s first ever photography exhibition and the largest presentation of the artist’s work so far, audiences are treated to a new-found appreciation of his works as well as practice.
