WHAT WE KNOW

Born in 1972, Hong Kong-based artist, Tsang Chui Mei, employs traditional Chinese painting principles with Western expressionist techniques to arrive at her distinct semi-abstract style of using colour patches and lines. The title references her exploration of time and space, and specifically points to an ancient Chinese expression rooted in Confucian philosophy, suggesting oblivion to the passage of time.

WHY WE LOVE IT

With landscapes & repetitive geometric shapes rendered in a palette of dream-like colours, the artist successfully blends the vastly different artistic practices of Chinese and Western painting. Nature forms the essence of her works, and the increasing use of fragments and patterns in her work pay tribute to the dynamism of nature and its energy flows; they also manifest her concerns around the increasing strain the human population is imposing on its natural environment.
