Dali’s Divine Comedy: Beyond Reality

December 1, 2021 - July 31, 2022

WHAT
This is a collaborative exhibition between acclaimed Spanish artist, Salvador Dali, and 19th century French illustrator, Gustave Doré, highlighting the two artists’ printmaking that was created in different techniques. As a surrealist painter and printmaker, Dali experimented with various styles of art, including Cubism, Dada, Surrealism, Impressionism and Futurism; he is known for his hyper-realistic style. Doré is known for his wood and steel engravings and illustrated texts, including the Bible and the ‘Divine Comedy’ of Dante Alighieri.

WHY
Fans of classical printmaking will undoubtedly enjoy this exhibition, which highlights a selection of eccentric and wondrous works from both artists, each presenting their own interpretations of the ‘Divine Comedy’ with its imagined journey through Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise. Delicate and small in size, the artworks are highly imaginative and creative, and also highlight the tactility and skill needed to produce them.
