Brushstroke and Beyond
WHAT
Inspired by the Qing Dynasty philosopher, Shitao, who advocated that art should focus on the primality of a single, holistic brushstroke, the group exhibition showcases works by eight artists who encapsulate this philosophy. Hailing from diverse backgrounds and countries spanning from Western Europe to East Asia, each artist uses the idea of Shitao’s ‘one stroke’ to visually express their artistic vision and talents.
WHY
By illuminating Shitao’s one-stroke concept, this exhibition demonstrates how artists connect with Shitao’s values and wisdom, and extensively elaborate their unique ways to show a sense of liberation, imagination, and achieving their boundless potential. The gallery also invited local artist, Pong Yu Wai, to participate in the exhibition as a part of Hong Kong Gallery Association’s summer programme, the annual project that focuses on the local art scene and local talent.
