Zhou Zixi: Ensemble
WHAT
Born and based in Shanghai, the artist is considered a history painter, known for his practice of allegorical narrative, absurd visual expression and subtle landscape line drawing, and for constantly pursuing hidden facts and the fate of ordinary people through his works. Rooted in his life and ‘memories’ of Shanghai, including his studio and residences, this exhibition highlights scenes of intrusion in various private or public spaces in the ‘Debris Flows’ series and a series of monochromatic lyrical landscapes.
WHY
Emotional, melancholy, and perhaps acutely personal, the exhibition bears witness to Zhou’s commitment to art in the face of alternating social trends, recounting his struggles as an artist and father in an age of turmoil and transformation! Depicting time and space, society and individual, politics and culture, disaster and everyday life on canvas, viewers can delve into these introspective paintings while exploring rich allusions and metaphors in the works of art, as well as the meaning of life and death.
