Yoon Hyup: Montage
WHAT
The NY-based Korean artist (b.1982) is known for his East-meets-West practice that transforms the structures of the city and the rhythms of nature into a distinctive visual language. His colourful lines and dots go beyond simple visual expressions, forming fluid structures that interweave time and space, drawing viewers into an immersive sensory flow. The order and chaos of cities become abstracted and reconfigured in his works – a visual translation of the urban experience.
WHY
Lines in the paintings echo the flow of Qi (氣, energy) as described in Eastern philosophy according to Taoist thought, which emphasises effortless and natural movement. Viewing the works becomes an active experience of following dynamic, rhythmic movements. Each artwork becomes an open field of exploration rather than a static object, inviting spatial and sensory inquiry.
