When in Tokyo
WHAT
Featuring 7 talented Japanese artists, the exhibition presents works of art that not only enrich the audience’s understanding of contemporary Nihonga, but also serves as a point of inspiration, considering how much influence Japanese culture has on the West. Each of the 7 artists come from an array of backgrounds, practices, disciplines, and values; they are of different ages and hail from different parts of Japan, overall presenting a small-scale model of the contemporary art scene in Japan today.
The artists presented are: Keita Sagaki, Masaki Okuten, Tomoko Nagai, Toru Ichikawa, Toshio Iezumi, Kan-Zan-Loc, and Shinya Tanoue.
WHY
The intention behind the exhibition is to celebrate the vibrant and diverse East Asian art scene, specifically emphasising the rich cultural heritage of Japan. By placing the exhibition in Hong Kong, it creates a cultural dialogue between Hong Kong contemporary art and Japanese contemporary art, offering a unique opportunity for visitors to connect with each of the 7 featured artists on a personal level, gaining insight into their artistic identity, values and ideas.
