Shatter

October 3, 2022 - December 2, 2022

WHAT
Art Intelligence Global’s debut exhibition takes its title from Helen Frankenthaler’s ‘Shatter’ (1953) – a groundbreaking work on loan from the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation, which demonstrates her revolutionary break from the New York School in pure form. The first of its kind in Asia, the exhibition is a group show spotlighting five female artists whose pioneering explorations of colour greatly expanded the frontiers of Abstract Expressionism.

Visits are by appointment only.

WHY
The exhibition showcases important works by key women who experimented, probed, and eventually triumphed in launching abstract painting beyond what had been established by the male-dominated New York School. Besides works by Lee Krasner and Helen Frankenthaler, the show also features works by three other women forerunners who have until recently remained relative outsiders: Lynne Drexler, Alma Thomas, and Yvonne Thomas. For these three artists, this is the first exhibition of their work in Asia. By linking some of the most well-known and least well-known women of abstract painting, the unique show highlights their diverse and exceptional accomplishments and innovations.
