WHAT
In this newest exhibition, the renowned Hong Kong artist’s artwork is laid out as a retrospective, honouring his vast career in art. Born in England in 1932 and living in Hong Kong from 1965, a large portion of Tilbrook’s art career unfolded in Hong Kong. Collected for years by such local stalwarts as Hongkong Land, Swire Group and The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, Tilbrook fulfilled commissions of expansive mural paintings that count among Hong Kong’s most recognisably abstract artworks. He combines his fine skill as a draughtsman and knowledge of colour theory to engage with global geo-political issues, conveying a sense of urgency about acute environmental threats.

Known for his artistry, many of the artist’s renowned works were commissioned by businesses and high-ranking individuals within Hong Kong. With unfailing precision and attention to detail, Tilbrook’s heritage paintings create a record of intrinsic beauty and documentary value, and also bring awareness to ongoing global affairs. Alongside these themes stand Tilbrook’s graphic compositions that incorporate Chinese characters.
