Joy As An Act of Resistance
WHAT
Amir H. Fallah’s new exhibition addresses the world-weariness that has developed as a result of the pandemic and the onslaught of bleak and hopeless information. In ten paintings, he depicts the everyday reactions and rebellions people have and commit to fight against the melancholic times. With a variety of rich and bright colours, he provides a metaphorical light in the darkness of our current world.
WHY
Through this exhibition, the artist demonstrates a variety of elements of the current human condition, universal to us all. From the psychological fatigue to the lack of agency people feel, he perfectly sums up the emotions of the masses while encouraging people to find their respite in acts of resistance. Whether revenge-shopping or indulging in creativity and art, he emboldens viewers to indulge in things that bring them joy, even if they might be seen as shallow.
