Ink Play: Paintings by Lui Shou-Kwan

April 15, 2023 - July 16, 2023

WHAT
The exhibition is the first major solo show of the influential Chinese artist in North America, and is co-presented by the Art Institute of Chicago and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). As one of the pioneers of the New Ink painting movement, Lui Shou-Kwan (1919-1975) sought to modernise traditional Chinese ink painting in Hong Kong during the 1950s–1970s. He combined calligraphic brushwork with a modernist sensibility to develop his unique approach to art, and later experimented with abstraction to create his signature Zen paintings.

Please note that the exhibition takes place a the Art Institute of Chicago. More information can be found here.
