Hylozoism: An Arts & Technology Exhibition
WHAT
Featuring a line-up of 5 international and local artist lineup, including Ellen Pau and Keith Lam from Hong Kong, Japanese music legend Ryuichi Sakamoto, media artist Daito Manabe, Living Architecture Systems Group/ Canadian artist Philip Beesley, and Italian artist collective fuse*, the exhibition proposes the concept of symbiosis between art and technology – like an endless cycle of mutual benefits and co-existence. From picturesque landscapes to the subject of neo-nature, the 5 artworks at HKDI Gallery virtually demonstrate the connections between the world, the earth, and the people.
WHY
What happens when media and technology meet art? In this exhibition, you may find your own answer, or see how others have defined theirs. The 5 media artworks display a response to contemporary and near futures, posing a vision of hylozoism – a philosophy that sees all matter as alive for the future, describing a new ecology created jointly by humans and machines. Drawing from the story of plants in the environment, artificial intelligence, virtuality and reality, viewers are invited to ponder and redefine the conflicts, possibilities and relationship between nature and technology.
